Driving around The Cotswolds

The contrast between the high, windswept Wolds and the low peaceful vale provides the driving traveler with plenty to see. There is no doubt that anyone taking route through the Cotswolds will want to stop and experience the history, inspiring scenery and characters that make The Cotswolds.

A drive around the area can be enjoyed at any time of the year. The countryside in the summer months is a multitude of greens interspersed with splashes of colour from wild flowers growing along the grass verges. In the autumn months a spectacular display of reds, yellows and golden foliage blends with the rich brown of ploughed fields and the subtle shades of the limestone constructions.

The map below (Taken from 'The Cotswold Ring' by C. Knowles) provides a tour about 75 miles long, which explores some of the most picturesque and historic villages of the Northern Cotswolds and the following pages will take you this route by road.

Do watch out for some of the small lanes, these can be very narrow and steep. Please remember that livestock, horses and the general public may also be sharing the road with you.
